There are many reasons why people look to change careers, these reasons could be dissatisfied in their current role, others by personal growth or changes in their life circumstances.
We encourage all clients who are considering a career change to continue in their current role and do their research alongside their current role. However, we do have clients who find their job is having adverse effects on their health and they decide to leave with no job to go to. It is not something we encourage; however, some clients cannot stand their job for a whole variety of reasons and just leave and we always respect their decision as it is a personal choice. We then support them on their career pivot journey back into employment.
These are some of the main reasons / motivations why clients come to Stirling Careers Consultancy and wanting to change career:
- The most common reason why clients come to us is Lack of Job Satisfaction, clients are feeling undervalued or unappreciated by their line manager, boredom, or want more of a challenge and opportunities for growth.
- Some clients are seeking a Better Work-Life Balance particularly wanting more flexible working arrangements around remote working.
- Wanting Higher Pay or Better Benefits as financial needs have changed, for example, starting a family, saving for a home. They may be struggling with the cost of living.
- Pursuit of Passion or Interests
- Some clients have a passion or an interest they want to turn into a full-time career
- I have some clients who come to me who are struggling for Health Reasons and may need a less physically demanding job or one which is less emotionally draining.
- I have had a previous client who came to me as their particular area of work was in Decline thus making their Job Insecure. This was partly caused by automation AI, for other clients their work has been outsourced.
- For other clients there have been changes to their family situation i.e. caring for children or elderly parents. I had one client who moved from another country to the UK and needed help finding a job.
- I have had clients come to me who have a Desire to Learn or Grow and wanting to gain new skills and want to work in a different environment.
- Being made redundant is another opportunity to take a step back and weigh up all your career options before moving forward.
